Went to take my tailgate down on my hilly driveway, tailgate popped out as if I was removing it. Tool to dealer and discovered part is on back order a clear sign there is an issue

You would think Ford would have tailgate hinges figured out by now.

Got a picture of what happened?

Picture is a little rough towards the bottom left you see the hinge, you can see part of the hinge is misaligned. Dealer is replacing both sides but the side with issue is on back order. I’m wondering if the tailgate dampener might have something to do with it. I installed the oem dampener on the side with the issue, as it designed to be installed

A member here bought a new f150 a couple years back, got rear ended resulting in a broken/bent rear axle, naturally was on backorder, and had to wait like 8 months or something stupid before Ford got them one.

I can't really make out what's going on in the picture... but then again... I've never looked at a functional hinge on a 2019.

Dealer stated there might be an issue because piece is on back order, I worked for ford in the past , I have seen many a recall and runs on problem parts

Better picture

That is a bit better... looks like it's bent.

Is it an issue with just trucks equipped with the dampener or is it the whole fleet? I'm wondering if the added stress from the dampener is causing the issue, thus the question. Mine does not have the dampener.

It was just under 6 months... And the body shop leaving the windows open, so the interior got covered in mold was WAY worse than the waiting for the axle housing.
Then the body shop did a bad job building the rear, so it started making noise, blew out the pinion seal, and was leaking gear oil when I turned it in.
F U Jackson Auto Body!!! $29k in repairs and the truck was a piece of sh!t when you were done.

Moral of the story, don't get rear ended lol. What a nightmare.

I called my insurance agent once a day, Fords complaint line twice a day, and the body shop multiple times a day for months... I work second shift, I had all day to annoy everyone!

Something as simple as a tailgate hinge and they HAD to mess with it. Only problem I ever had with Ford tailgate hinges was worn plastic bushings on one truck. Ive never needed to complain about them. They should have left that alone.

I'm still waiting for a hood for my 2020!
It's been on backorder since late May.

The entire hinge sub-ass'y is overly complicated. Flimsy looking spring steel looking pieces.... sometimes ya gotta wonder WTF?
