Tacoma has a recall...

I'm really glad I'm not rallying for toyota right now...... it's not looking good, I must admit.

A bit off topic, but does anyone know what the official standpoint was/is on F-150's spitting spark plugs? My stepdad just had one shoot out of his truck this evening and I am wondering if Ford is standing by the product or is he is on the hook for the cash.

im not to sure i have heard about it for atleast a year or so now and also a special too is needed to take certain plugs out. now if this is correct i am not sure only what i heard from local auto shops. so i would be calling a ford stealership near you and ask

The special tool on this truck is the running engine shooting them out. I was being a bit of a jerk when I asked. This is the second time this happened to his truck and Ford will not repair it for free despite being a design flaw. Some dealers have eaten the repair but not Ford. Ford let's the dealer eat it.

That sucks when we can't make quality parts in our own back yard any more.

As far as your plug situation goes Jason, Some dealers will heli coil it, and others will tell you to put a new head on it. I work for a dealer. What years the truck? They revised the design and made them have more threads on some trucks.

The truck is a 2003. The dealer that he bought if from went belly up. I'll end up heli-coiling it myself unless he decides he want's it fixed immediately.

Did they have the 3v heads yet in 2003? I just replaced the plugs and COPs in my brother's 97. It was the first time I've put plugs in a 5.4. I must say there aren't very many threads holding them in. But then again it's got 180,000 hard miles on it without issue, yet... I followed the Ford procedure for replacing them so hopefully he should continue to be trouble-free. I wonder if the 2v or 3v heads are worse about it?

Working on that thing just makes me like the pre-1997 Fords that much better. Alot of the design took a major step backwards in 1997 as far as I'm concerned.

I'll have to get the head off to see. I didn't fix it the last time since he needed a truck fast and I didn't have a spare to give him. I know he said there are only like 4 threads holding the plugs in.

They went from a 4 thread to an 8 thread plug. The new heads are revised. They are 2v heads on his 03. We heli coil some of them. Others, if the truck has repeat issues with blowing plugs out, we put heads on them

Are you joking me? Toyota recall the problem? They've known for over a year about NUMEROUS problems with their vehicles. You call that responsibility to not notify them until AFTER people are dying? What kind of heartless asshole are you? Ford is doing no worse then Toyota. Toyota will pay the people off to leave them alone, just like Ford did. Each car manufacturer has their reality check from time to time, and this is a big one for Toyota. It's ridiculous to think they just ignored all the complaints and accident related manufacturing defects. They figured they could ride this one out, but not any longer. Now they have a recall on just about all of their vehicles. I like Toyota over honda or dodge anyday, but I'll be damned this is stupid.

well first of all, that is MR. ASSHOLE TO YOU BUDDY!!! , secondly- you need to my your own business instead of calling some one an a-hole because of a difference of opinion. third, yes i call it responsibility to make a recall after folks have died. atleast they are still tying to make things right instead of sweeping it under the rug. How are the auto makers suppost to know something is wrong with thier cars without something happening? something did and they are fixing it. end of story. Now if you dont mind, go back to your little happy name calling world and think twice before you call ME an asshole or anyone else!:icon_thumby:
