My stock tach isnt working and i dont particularly want to rip apart the dash right now so im planning on getting an aftermarket one. How hard is it to install on my 91 Ranger? I know i need to hook it off a wire off the coil but everyone tells me that its the yellow/brown stripe wire i need to hook up to and what i have is:

Red
Yellow/Red stripe
Yellow
Yellow/Black stripe

ANy idea which wire is which?

Buy a Sunpro kit. Then read the instructions. It will tell you right where to hook the wire. Makes more sense than letting a bunch of braying jack-asses on the internet tell you what to do.

I found that was the best way to go when I did my aftermarket tach.

Fair enough, so i take it the instructions were great for the Sunpro?

Yeah, they were pretty good. A little generic with coil-pack Toyotas, but that shouldn't be a problem for you.
