T5's on Craigslist

Okay okay so maybe this should be in the ads, but I'm not actually selling them...
there's a couple of t5's listed on craigslist in my area, and from what the descriptions say they are in need of a rebuild..before I go askin the guy (or gal) for more info I figured I'd ask if anyone was interested..they're listed as $150...I think that's for each.

Let me copy the ad for ya:

2 mustang t-5 tranny's $150

I have 2 t5 trannys one of them pops out of reverse Bad but works fine in all of the foreward gears and the other makes some really bad noises and its not useable but maybe for parts to fix reverse on the other tranny idk. i used both behind v8 engines the one with the reverse problem was only used behind it for about 2 weeks. they are both originally out of 4cyl cars but work with v8 engines. thank you sorry firm price, thank you

if anyone's interested and wants to try and work something out to get one, let me know...i thought about it, but until i do something with my engine i think i've decided to skip this one, but it seems to me that if you're willing to do the rebuild, 150 isnt a bad price for a t5 (even if it's not a t5 wc)..maybe i'm wrong?

Having re read that again, I think I'm inclined to agree...plus...
it just occurred to me, it does state they were out of 4 cylinders originally and I believe there are some differences between t5's out of 8s and 4's...though I have no idea what they are???
(maybe that's why they're now junked since he put them behind 8's?)

edit:

I just found this in looking up rebuild kits...

1987-88 Cougar & T-Bird & 1987-93 Mustang with 2.3L 4 Cycle utilize a larger front input shaft bearing than other T5's. 1993-96 Cobra uses a tapered input pilot bearing rather than the loose rollers commonly found in T5's.

this being said...can anyone tell me, if you could rebuild a t5 out of a 4 cyl for an 8 cyl (why or why not?)
seems to me, if the input shaft bearing is the only main difference than you would simply change that out for an 8 cylinder, but the rest would be a straightforward rebuild..?
in which case...a master rebuild kit can be had for under $300..giving someone a t5 for around 400 to 450 plus labor of course...

the t-5's in the 4 bangers always has considerably steeper gearing, and they also tend to grenade quite easily, the 4 cyl trannys is a trick mustang guys use to shave some decent time off there 1/4 mile without real investment of money. t-5's that need rebuild are worth scrap price in my eyes, they arent even sufficient in stock v8 form to handle the power. its a junk tranny, unless u plan on getting it built to a tremec then dont waste the money
