Its been awhile since my last visit. Back problems had me sidelined and i've still got issues but, at least i can move around now. My question; Did a member post a solution to the shifter placement of a T5 5 speed swapped into a Ranger? I believe it has to do with using an S10 chevy extension housing. Another way is installing bucket seats. I would like to hear from anyone who has done either & how it worked out. Thanks

I reversed my shifter. The 60/40 seat got in the way. I will be flipping it to the correct position after I get my Grand Cherokee seats installed.

Thanks for the input but, i'm now leaning toward the S10 mod route. Anybody else done this. Thank You very much.

Well what I did for mine was reverse the shifter, but it is a little hard to reach with the stock bench seat. My plan is to add Bucket seats and turn the shifter back the right way.

Heres a picture of my current setup (dont mind the rusty floors, its all surface rust)

Oh my god! Nope, i don't wanna go that way. I'm going to go the S10 route as i think i've located the right extension housing. Thanks for all the help.

Swapped in the back of a 302 V8?

I got lots of pics for that one!

A nice clean excuse to have cup holders! :icon_thumby:

These comments come from RPS past posts on using the S-10 tail shaft and problems.

The slick setup is to use the s-10 tailshaft on the Mustang tranny. Will only work if the s-10 tranny is made for a mechanical speedo. This will move the shifter forward 7 or 8 inches, can't remember exactly. I tried this and the tailshaft bolts right up but the tranny mount is in a different spot. a little fabrication required in that area. The s-10 tailshaft I have is for a electronic speedo, so I couldn't use it.

Well for all who want to know if it will work it wont i just found out im swapping a 2.3 turbo into a model a and the stock t-bird shifter was to far back so we went to the yard and found that the s-10 tail shaft will bolt up but the speedo gear mounts in the wrong spot and i tried switching out the main shaft but the s-10 uses a different style bearing on the first gear so unless you wanted to do alot of machine work then it would work or if there was a way to mount the speedo gear in the right spot then it would work or if you completly switched to an electronic speedo

Its actually pretty simple swap on the tranny you have to mill a little out inside the tailshaft so the overdrive doesnt hit and judt figure out a was to mount the speedo and your golden

A friend of mine did it for his cobra replica. The speedo will not work at all, regardless or mechanical or electric tailhousing unless you move the mustang speedo drive gear on the output shaft. Problem is that the part of the shaft that it sits on is larger than the rest of the shaft. If you use a feeler gauge to shim the output shaft size up to fit the ID of the speedo drive gear, it can be moved to the proper location for the S10 tailhousing. You do not have to mill the tailhousing at all for clearance unless you have a large overdrive gear (non stock mustang world class).

This would easily work on 98+ Rangers. They don't have speedo gears in the tailhousing. Speedo signal comes from the RABS sensor in the rearend.

Well, I got the tailshaft housing, and as noted:
The speedo will not work,
The trans mounts are different,
The shift rod needs to be shortened...

I'm working on getting this modified to accept the stock speedo gear, in the stock stang location. I'll let you all know how this turns out.
Hey guys! i got it done. I ended up getting a bunch of aluminum built up where the ford speedo goes, then milling it out at the proper angle for the speedo drive on the mustang tranny. Then, there is some milling on the inside of the Tailshaft housing, to get the proper clearances. I also, used the mustang top and shift forks, but the S-10 shifter rail...you can use the top cover I assume...total - $100 for the housing, beer for the welding, then $125 for the machine work..I did all the measureing and whatnot, they just had to toss it in the mill and go wild.

This is the S-10 tailshaft going onto a Camero T-5 but has some good pictures and comments
