Hey guys,
While shifting my 93 f250 into 4wd, it seems to lock up when trying to get to the neutral postion and 4lo. It goes into 4hi real easy. Any tricks that anyone knows of? I just bought it today so havent had a chance to really fool with it. I have read that they can break easily though, so ill be gentle.

It's gated. you have to move the lever to the side before it will go the the next position.

It shouldn't be gated on that year (unless they did something different on the F-250s), but you have to press down on the shifter to pull it into 4-lo. And often the shifter design sticks. I had that problem when I bought my '95 F-150, and it had a brand new shifter piece on it. Had to crawl under and lube the heck out of the linkage with some penetrating oil. Then when I did my clutch replacement I tore it apart and found that it was missing some bushings which didn't help matters. Had to custom manufacture a new bushing for it. Works fine now.

you need to be in neutral and foot on the break to get it into 4l

I don't think I've ever seen one that worked properly. Must be pushed down for sure and pulled sharply back.

Mine works properly, lol. But it took some work to get it to that point. And I make sure to cycle it into 4-lo an back out once in awhile to make sure it stays free moving.

my dads manual tcase in his 90 f150 works great you just have to be stoped with your foot in the break to get into 4l
