My '91 has the 1354"E" transfer case on it with the 35 front diff in it and I want to convert it to a manual t/case. Since the 1350 manual t/cases are readily available (I have a pile of them) i'd like to use one of those.

My question is, if there is a front d/shaft that will bolt in without modification to a 35 front end.

Going by lengths and yoke/flange combo's, would a front shaft from say...
an 87 truck with an FM145/1350/D28 setup bolt in? The length seems about right. Hsa anyone tried it?

yep you will have no problem, but you might have to take 1'' out of the drive line . i dident do to the 6'' susp...lift.

You won't have to modify the D35, no matter what shaft you use, it will be the shaft itself. 1354s used a fixed yoke and 1350s used a slip yoke. Also the center housing on the D35 is longer than the D28, so if the shaft comes from a truck with a D28 it may need to be shortened.

Or maybe you could use the original shaft and take the fixed yoke off and use the slip yoke on it?

Thanks for the replies!

The truck itself has a 4 inch suspension lift, so it may not need to be shortened.

I guess i'm off to the wreckers to find a front shaft. (I don't see too many FM145 or TK5's in the wreckers anymore)

Well......a little update.

Went to the local Pick-N-Pull in search of the front driveshaft, but with no luck. I did however, find something more to my liking. There was a wrecked '91 Ranger with both an M5OD and a 1354 manual t/case. I've been looking for both for quite literally years. (NOT a common option in my neck of the woods.)

I was able to get the M5OD, 1354, shifters/boots/bezel/floor plate, and a near new 4.0L clutch kit(flywheel still had machining marks on it) for $169 including taxes and cores. (cores alone totalled almost $50)

This was all during a weekend half price sale. How lucky is that?!

I guess i'll be busy for a while.......

Nice! That's a deal for sure.

Thanks!

Yeah, it was a great deal.

Everything is sitting in a pile on my garage floor awaiting the completion of some of my other "projects" that i will have to find the time to complete.

Too many trucks.......too little time.....and so on.......
