I am interested in swapping the tranny from my ranger,2.3, to a t-5 from a 302, there is an adapter, and you need flywheel ,clutch, tranny, peddle, from a donor. I am just not sure what would have the t-5 in it. Would all the 302 trucks and vans with a manual work? What is easyist way to i.d. on the door sticker, or tranny plate? I have a 94 truck any idea on what year of tranny should work? I am going to need another tranny soon and would love to get away from hydraulic clutch. Thanks for any ideas.

I don't believe Ford ever put a T5 in a truck, only cars received them; namely the Mustang, T-Bird, Cougar, and Fairmont (that I can recall). You should be able to get the bellhousing from a 2.3 Mustang that came with a T5 to use on your truck. I would also say the 2.3 Mustang version of the T5 will be more properly geared for your truck as well. The lowest first gear for the 5.0 Mustang was 3.35 ratio. The 2.3 was a 3.97 ratio, which is much better for the lower torque rated motor. They would have started in 83 (some 83's still used a SROD 4 Speed though) and gone through the 93 model year.

As far as the clutch portion, I'll leave that to someone who has experienced that before.

I don't believe the 2.3 mustangs and t-birds came with a t5 mainly because I have seen adaptor plates that allow you to bolt one up. I think there is a company called stinger performance if I remember right that made the plate for the turbo t.

Why do you want to get away from a hydro clutch? Usually the swap goes the opposite way

What is in f-150's and van that have 302's? Will they work with an adapter plate? I could get a cheap one if they interchange. The adapter will work with a t-5 out of a 302? That is why I was wondering. I looked in the tech library and was wondering why there was no trucks or vans listed. I have not had very good luck with the hydraulic clutch's to much work.

I'm not very familiar with which trans came in what. I know they used a ZF S5-42 and the M5OD-R2. What came with what options and in what years, I don't know. But they both have bellhousings as part of the trans. I helped my buddy lift a ZF once, and it is a heavy trans. I'd bet it's pushing 200 lbs.

I also don't know of any adapter plates.

The T-5 is the only transmission found in Mustangs with both the 2.3 and the 5.0. The T-5 behind the 2.3 has a smaller diameter shaft where it slips into the pilot bearing. They also have their own bellhousings for the 2.3 so no adapter is needed. The T-Birds with the 2.3 had T-5's but the Super Coupes had the M5OD-R2 if equipped with a 5 speed.

Thanks for the info, I guess I was thinking the full size trucks and vans had t-5 because they were v-8's.I will have to go junk yard hunting.
