Happy holidays everyone!
I have a question that I'm sure has been asked before. Has any one adapted a T-5 transmission from an '88 T-Bird (or any other) to a 2.9L engine without trying to find an adapter?
I have the trans. and associated pieces (bell housing, clutch, hydraulics etc).
I have a fairly good running '90 2.9L with a blown transmission.
Is the option just trading for the original?
Thanks!

Hi ancient:

Find yourself a 05-15 Mustang with the 4.0/T-5*. Get the bellhousing and the slave cylinder (4.0 and 2.9 share same pattern). Then you should be dangerous.

You may have to do some changes to the transmission mount and I don't know if the driveshaft length is close enough or not.

Also note: The T-5 shifter is further back (like right against the seat)**. The solution for that is a Chev S-10 tailhousing which puts the shift close to stock.

* I think at some point Ford changed from the t-5 to the tr-3650, but I don't know exactly when.

** IF you like a short shifter and have bucket seats, the Ford T-5 can be made work with just a new hole in the floor.

Hey don4331, I figured someone would on this site have a solution. Thanks!

Tr3650 came mid 2001 for the GT only. The t5 stuck around in the v6 until the 3.7 came out.
