I have an 88 ranger standard cab, 2wd 2.3 turbo with a t-5. The previous owner put the t-5 in it, so I have no idea what it came from or what driveshaft I have. My problem is that there is some play between the trans and the driveshaft because it does not fit into the transmission far enough. What driveshaft do I need, or do I need mine lengthened? Does anyone know how to do this swap or have info on t-5 transmission driveshaft lengths?? I read that the shaft should stick out of the transmission just over an inch with weight on the springs, mine sticks out 3 inches... I cannot find any info on this online, maybe it should be put in the tech section if we figure this out.

Thanks!

3 inch on the driveshaft is way too much. Look for the tag number on your T5. It should have a number like 1352-055 or 057 or something like that. I believe some of the T5 are about 25 inch. My 86, and 87 TK5 is around 27 or 28 inch.

Update - Mine is 49.5" from u joint center to u-joint center. I need one that is 51" - 51 1/4". I have read that 2wd explorer's have this driveshaft. I am going to the junkyard asap to verify this.

The driveshaft from the 91 2wd auto explorer (51" u-joint center to center) went on fine but it sticks out of the trans about 1 1/8" and just touches the trans seal boot that sticks out of the trans. It is about 1/8" longer than I would like it but it does work, and no more vibrations. It also had the same u-joints as an 88 ranger driveshaft. For an FYI, I did measure an 80's 2wd ranger driveshaft and I believe it was 50.75" and that would have probably worked better, but this should work out fine. Plus the explorer one is aluminum =). I honestly believe we need to add this info to a sticky or something. I really had a massive pain finding any t-5 driveshaft swap info.
