T-19/FM145 Combo?

Okay, so last month I blew my FM145 and just pulled it out this evening. Upon removal, I couldn't help but notice how similar the gear box bolts (the ones the go the the bell housing) looked to a T-19 trannies (Found in F-250/350 in 80's) I would LOVE to have that ultra low granny gear in my BII! Has anyone ever attempted this? A T-19 to an FM145 bellhousing? It'd be awesome! Thoughts and oppinions appreciated greatly!

Also, I thought I had an FM146 until this evening... Geuss the grease made the 5 look like a 6... Anyway, what is a suitable swap for the FM145 without having to change everything? Still like to do the T-19 swap somehow... Maybe one day

Isn't the T-19 a cast iron case? Those things are incredibly heavy.

Anyway, if you want to just bolt it in and go without changing anything then another 145 trans is your only option.

If you want to upgrade transmissions without too much muss and fuss look into an M5. There are two wonderful write-ups in the tech submission forum that you can use. One by me about going from the 145 to the M5. One by cubewhiz about going from the 146 to the M5. The swaps are very similar, but there are some things specific to the 145 swap. Cube has a lot more pics than I do, but his pics apply to my instructions.

The M5OD write up you've done seems quite easy to follow and accomplish! Thanks for that! My questions would be A. Which vehicles have the M5OD? B. Any 2.9 or 4.0 M5 from 89 (or maybe it was 90)+ Ranger, B2, or Explorer will do you just fine.

I have the 4.0 version in my truck, and honestly, I don't notice much of a difference. I don't wheel it, but I do tow. The only thing I've noticed is that I need to wait a bit longer to shift into OD, but at about the same time that I did the swap I moved to an area with more hills, so terrain may be a contributing factor there.
