Companeros,
I have an '85 Ranger 6 cyl manual reg cab and I blew the engine. I also have a wrecked 1999 Ranger ext cab 6 cyl automatic. Can I switch engines?

Welcome to TRS~!

Yes, and no...you can swap the engines but you will probably need to swap in everything else up to the tip of the transmission and maybe even the drive shaft...and the wiring...if you have the 4.0 in the 99 you may be able to bolt it to your transmission if you have the 2.9 currently...but if you have a 3.0 in the 99 then it's a complete drive train swap...

But, overall, as long as the 99 engine and drive train are working and the wiring is complete it should be a good swap...

Oh, and you will probably get more detailed information from people who have actually done the swap...just post in the appropriate forum...this is the introduction so you will get spotty answers at best...unless someone provides you with a link to a recent swap or tech bulletin...

Find out what engine the 99 is and search for things like 4.0 to replace 2.9 or something similar...
