Swapping to a 120/140 MPH Speedometer?

Why? Jim, have you ever driven a BII over 80 MPH...? Unless it's 2wd and slammed you won't want to do it often.

this^ BIIs are scary doing much over that. espically without sway bars. i know from experience, i dont ever really wanna go that fast on tight roads in my truck again. my mustang is a different experience though, the faster she goes, the more comfortable it is :headbang:

oh and changing your speedo to a higher rated one wont actually make you go any faster!

Some interstates are high enough to nearly peg out a 85 mph speedo. Nebraska's is 75 so when I am running 80 it is just about there. I have never been over that in a RBV but it is unnerving to look down and see the thing almost pegged.

I think that is why most newer cars have a speedo that goes higher than the vehicle can. For example my 2002 F-150 is limited just shy of 100 mph but the speedo goes to 120.

i don't think that's quite it, it's limited, but that's not actually the limit of the abilities of the truck... my truck (ranger) is speed governed to 160km/h, but my speedo goes to 200... now i know DAMN well that i can do well over 160, i've still got half the pedal when it hits the governor...

my mustang on the other hand (89) no governor, and a 180km/h speedo, i can peg it on the trip reset button

(i believe this was 3rd gear, maybe 4th)

just worked out the numbers, that's 3rd gear, though the speedo is wrong, because the tires i've got were taller than stock, i was actually doing 195km/h

Some people need more than a 140 mph. Can't seem to load this one the usual way. His day job is an Army attack helicopter pilot now in the sand box.
Weezl, just what do you have in that Stang, hard to really read the numbers also. Didn't know you had one also.

stock 5L pretty much... had a few things done to it here and there... EGR coolant lines bypassed, 73mm maf, and later (after the pic was taken) a port polished intake... but that's it... 2.73 rear end gave me the gearing, but it takes a lot to get it up there... top speed i hit was 260 km/h (167miles)

it's been parked for about 2 years now, and last time it was on the road, was only for about 2 weeks... haven't had plates on it in close to 5 years now... got it when i was 18

Ford doesn't care how fast it can go, only as far as it is limited. As far as they are concerned what it is limited to is how fast it can go.

I know cruising on the interstate in college, I liked looking at the 150 mph speedo in my Laser hanging at 77mph better than the family conestoga Explorer's 85 mph 9 mph from pegged.

I believe it's a mix of simple safety and the tire speed rating, especially from the factory tires. My brother's 2003 Ranger level II is limited to 92mph whereas most stock regular rangers are limited to 99mph simply because the more aggressive tires the level II comes with aren't speed rated for much more than that.

I never said I was going to drive the Bronco II over 80mph.

Did you see this Jim ^^ I'd get while you can stuff on c-list goes quick.

I never said I was going to drive the Bronco II over 80mph.

From the words of Jeremy Clarkson, "my watch says it's good to go 50 meters under water I'll never go there never, but it's good to know it'll be ok if I drop it in the sink."

So just because the speedo reads 140 mph dosn't mean he'll do 140, it just means he can if he wants.

damn good deal!

ranger bronco 140 speedo - $1 (arlington)

even if it IS 125, like the add says, that's still a good deal!

Here's the deal. The guy is in Arlington Washington and doesn't have Paypal. I really don't want to send a money order for $125.00 to someone that far away that I don't know. Anyone here close to that area that has Paypal that I could send money to to pick it up??

My '85 w/ a 2.3 turbo /t-5 will peg 85 in third gear.
