Swapping to a 120/140 MPH Speedometer?

I have a friend with a junk yard. I saw an early 80's Mustang in the yard that I think had the speedo laying on the seat. I think I'll go get it next week and see if I can get it to fit the B2 cluster. If it does, then I'll shell out the $$ for a Mustang 140 mph cluster.

running thought. could you trim down the foxbody gauge to fit it in the pod ie cut all but say the round edge down too the bowlish area. but of course this assumes the diamiter is the same after trimming to fit in the white pod and plus the depth?

im assuming that the it reads from the C5 though and not the T-case or axle?

Should read from the transfer case... or at least my 5.0/C-5 does.

I have an SVO Mustang cluster in the garage and the aforeshown stock RBV speedo still out of the housing. I'll throw them side by side tomorrow and see what's what.

Cool! Let us know what you find.

just a thought, why don't you just change the skin of your gauge cluster... i'm sure someone makes them that go to 140... from there you would just have to change the speedo gear (i assume, this was done lots on the mustangs of the same era, and especially with re-gearing)

shouldn't require a regear or new cable if you get the ranger one, direct drop in with no mods, the new faceplate is calibrated for the speeds.

I knowww....I knowwww......it's not your style.......:icon_rofl:

Why? Jim, have you ever driven a BII over 80 MPH...? Unless it's 2wd and slammed you won't want to do it often.

Some interstates are high enough to nearly peg out a 85 mph speedo. Nebraska's is 75 so when I am running 80 it is just about there. I have never been over that in a RBV but it is unnerving to look down and see the thing almost pegged.

I think that is why most newer cars have a speedo that goes higher than the vehicle can. For example my 2002 F-150 is limited just shy of 100 mph but the speedo goes to 120.
