After ripping up the crappy vinyl flooring in my 2000 truck I found that the floor pan was quite rusty. It’s not catastrophic and it will hold for a while, but I’m thinking about a cab swap in case I want to keep this truck for a while.

I’ve found a nice clean 2006 parts truck that has nothing but the cab left, which is convenient. Can anyone advise on wiring differences? Both are 2wd single cabs.

I just replied to your intro about the cab swap and VIN issues.

the 2 years have significant differences in the dash, instruments.
also the PATS factory security system doesn't like any modifications or work-arounds unless you send the computer to get reprogrammed.

PATS has the VIN hard coded in it. for the 2006 it is also matched to the instrument panel.

completely gutting & swapping the wiring/computer/instrument panel should work.

I would start by getting Ford wiring books for both years and start comparing/cross referencing.

All right all right all right!

Here's my nice clean 2006 cab. It came with a good 2.3, a shot auto trans, and a frame that's frankly nicer than mine (no frame swaps, I say to myself, I need to keep this project under control). It didn't come with a key, though. I plan to swap over all the wiring from my old cab to this one. Fortunately besides the auto trans, all the equipment is pretty much the same between the two- manual locks and windows and 2wd. Looks like my old wiring should just drop in. I'll be keeping the 06 dashboard itself since it's grey and I like that better than my beat up tan one.

A couple questions. I like the 06 steering wheel more than the old one; would it be feasible to keep it considering the differing airbag systems? Also, seeing as I will be swapping over all electronic systems, I assume the key and cylinder from my old column will be reused and I won't need or be able to use the 06 lock cylinder? I ask because the door and ignition locks would be mismatched and I'd rather keep them the same and get a new key from a locksmith.
