My 1994 4.0L has 125,000 hard miles on it. I am swapping it for a 1993 4.0L with 83,000 easy miles. The 1993 donor is a regular cab 4x4 with the M5OD-R1 trans. My truck is a supercab 4x4 with the same M5OD-R1 trans. Can I still use the 1994 computer or am I better off swapping computers? Are there any problems that I should be aware of in swapping motors?

THANKS,

Dave

I just sold my 93 with the 4.0 v-6, it had just cleared 200,000 and was running so good all the potential buyers assumed that it had 100,000 miles, I still can't beleive how strong that truck ran...good luck

my truck is a 95 originally came with a 4.0 I have had a 94 in it and I currently have a 98 in it now my ecu has worked fine with all 3 motors

If your 94 truck has california emissions, your gunna have to swap the engine, ecu, and entire engine/ underhood harness. The harness attaches to everything under your hood, engine, lights, horn, wipers... and so on. Sounds scary but, it only takes about 45min to swap harnesses.

If your 94 truck has federal emissions, just swap the engines.

Just note a 93 engine in 94 california truck is illegal... the cali motor has SFI and an EGR system. Which is ''tampering with emissions equipment'', which is against the law. But... almost never found by DOT officials...

Someone I know:dntknw::not_i:;brownbag;... has went through this exact swap the hard way. And with the 93 engine , ecu, and harness in his 94 california truck, is pleased to say , is running great with no problems.

Any detailed questions, or explanation on why it won't work, just ask but for now I'm done typing. Good luck.

what possibly could be wrong with the 125K motor? it was just broke in.

Even some of the fed emission trucks had the EGR and even the CPS.

You'll just have to look over these things, and use the proper PCM and harness.
