swaping out my auto trans

I want to swap out my a4ld auto to a anything reliable. I cant take the constant slipping, not shifting, waiting for it to fail on the trail anymore. what transmission is easy to find, cheap, and a easy install?

Your best bet is to go with a C5, you will lose your overdrive, but it is more reliable than the A4LD, should be just as reliable as the C4 for V8's, as they share similar internals

Yep C5 is you best shot. You can put c4 valve body and other internals. That is the biggest nock I have against ford is not being able to swap transmissions as easy as chevy

Ford does have trannies that are an easy swap, but even with chevy, there are a few applications were you have limited interchangeability...

So thats practicly a "plug and play" kit? just drop the old and bolt in the new? me and a friend are getting readdy to pull the motor and rebuild it bored out 30 over, cam, headers. the trans is practicly junk now im sure if we would open the motors iner beast the transmission would come apart

I'm not 100% sure on the length, but I do believe they are different lengths, meaning you will have to lengthen your driveshaft....But other than that, yeah, bolt-in...
