ok so my question is will a 7.5 9" brake size, backing plate and the rest of the hardware fit on a 8.8 10" brake size axle???

Yes, as long as it is not a 31 spline 8.8

yes, the 9" and 10" are both interchangeable on the 28spline 8.8's or 7.5's. but why downgrade? Most want to put 10" drums on their 9" stock trucks.

well to tell u the truth when i had the 7.5 with 9" brakes when i put all new shoes and hardware and wheel cyclinders and all new everything i think that they stoped the truck just fine even with the 33"s.. and i cant get the 10" to stop locking up under heaving stoping conditions for the life of me... but thanks for you imput ill be switching back to the 9":icon_thumby:

I did the same thing when i swapped axles, the 9 inch brakes will drag the rear tires no problem. I actually have trouble locking up the front wheels but it still stops great.
