I have a 2004 Ranger XLT 3.0L. The motor is going and I found a bitchin deal on an 08 3.0L with really low miles out of an edge. Are these motors swappable? I know the edge has a little wider frame so I wanted to make sure.

The engines should be nearly identical. The only differences might be minor electrical connections. You should be able to mix and match sensors if needed.

Why do you say your engine is going?

I have the good ol' driver side #4 and #6 cylinder misfires that came out of no where. Really rough idle only when warm. Read up on it on a bunch of ranger forums and heard its a common problem with the heads.

I wouldn't jump the gun and assume your engine is toast because of a pair of misfires. Any fault codes?

Yeah, I was getting 3-4 codes pretty much the whole time. CEL was flashing on idle. I didn't really mean the motor is toast as in done because this one problem. I just don't think it's worth the money I'm going to put into it. Compression is at the bottom end and even under in one cylinder. It has 120k on it.
