Swap wiring

I apologize for my ignorance, but... There is the wire harness on the Explorer 5.0 engine, there is a wire harness in the engine bay, and a wire harness in the cab on my 1997 Ranger. I can't figure out what combination I need to use. I found wire and vacuum Ford shop manuals for the Ranger and the explorer which should help after I determine which to use.

The engine harness on your donor 5.0 should plug directly into the main harness on the ranger in the engine bay. The connection is back near the firewall close to the pcm. Depending on your setup you may need to change some of the wires/pins in the connector.

Good to know, I have distant plans of doing this swap, and i've been wondering about that myself. Is the same true on an older model?

Thanks never was sure. I now have the Ranger and explorer shop manuals from Ford. Hopefully I can put info on the technical site when I get it figured out.
