im planning on doing a v8 swap on my 92 ranger 4x4 im just wondering wat the biggest motor i can but in it i was thinking of like a 400 and punching it out to bigger displacement or maybe a 429 and building it up to a 460 but dont know wat kinda engine can i get into it without serious mods to the frame like a know that you can get 400 sbc in the s10s with 550hp and have no problems.

well anything will fit really, but without serious modifications it won't hold up, or stop for that matter...

im putting a 460 in my 91 ranger. but its not gonna be a street truck at all and itll hav a 4-link craddle underneith it to help with frame strength and also a stout weight rack bar in the fram up front.

a guy we sled pull with has a 88 ranger with a 460 small block with roughtly 750hp and another 200hp of spray and he has no frame mods. and that a sled pulling truck.:icon_hornsup:

cool k so 460 no mods really than im wanting to build a 92 ranger just for hunting fishing and 4x4ing in the bush want lots of hp if i can to turn 44's or so

just set your cab on a 3/4 ton frame and save yourself a lot of work. big motor, big axles, strong frame.

:icon_rofl: UMM, No, it's not that easy. :icon_rofl: Better stick with your V6 for now.

to put a 460 n my ranger i had to completely remove the motor crossmember and get another one. got one from speedwaymotors and made it fit my frame. had to move the motor over to tthe pass side about an inch so the valve cover would clear the steering column. i also put a 3" body lift on so the tranny hump would clear the c6 ive got in it. the radiator had to be moved tot he bed cuz there simply wasnt the room for it up front. it is EXTREMELY tight, hav to turn the motor sidways to pull it in/out and doa bunch of wiggling. headers where another feat but thankfully im not using the stock coil spring buckets so i removed them and jus ran the 2-1/8" primary and 4" collector headers over the frame rail.:icon_thumby:

ya like wat kinda frame like a early bronco or k5

both have been done successfully. there is a Bronco II on this site sitting on all full-size chevy frame and running gear. slick setup, i considered something similar at one point.
