Hello,
I have several questions of which I have found contradicting information or info that just isn't clear. The truck I believe is a 1990 (or 1991) Ranger 2.9L 4X4 5 speed. The oil is full of coolant and now we are faced to a decision: which motor should we throw in there? From what I understand the 4.0L is a virtual drop in. What years of this motor can I put in this truck and from what vehicles? Do I need to stick with a V6 platform or can I put the 2.3L Turbo engine in it? I will re read the tech forums on the 4.0l swap for more info. I understand the tranny will bolt up but needs a different clutch disc? Should I but just a bare long block and swap the accessories (do they even fit) or should I buy something as complete as possible. I was thinking about maybe a manufactured 4.0L long block and swapping all the needed parts from the 2.9L to the 4.0L. The reason why I ask about the 2.3L turbo is because we were planning on turbocharging the truck and putting in a factory turboed engine would make life easier. Let me know ASAP guys, truck is dead and needs to be running within a week or two, THANKS!!!!
