swap out vent window

Collecting pieces and ideas to start to do my thing on my 86 Bronco2 . I have a 98 Explorer 5.0 with automatic. This will be my doner. I have collected a lot or ideas from folks on this excellent web site as well as other sites. Some imformation I have not found is what parts are needed to make the swap from vent windows to a one piece glass . I do not like vent windows. I plan to swap out the keyless entry, and possibly do some dash and door panel swapping . I would appreciate any imformation you can give. The Bronco2 has some surface rust, but not bad. Body is fairly straight a few bumps but pretty good .I am anxious to get started. I am a retired old man . hope I live long enough to finish this project.

Not trying to change your mind, but why would you want to get rid of vent windows? What don't you like about them?

A vent window is AC that never breaks. A feature I miss in the Rat.

I can understand wanting good lines of sight, although I don't find them to be much of a hindrance in that regard.

I do find your other two points to be odd though. You drive an 86 Bronco II and you are worried about things like wind noise and out-dated looks? I think both those ships have probably sailed, especially the looks.

I'm not questioning your desire to swap, I like my full windows better because they never get stuck, I jut think your rationale is odd.

I've never tried swapping out vents but I think it would be easiest to swap out the whole door that has the window style you want. I believe that 83 to 93? will work for door fitment and lining up the shadow lines.

Nearly every vehicle posted is different from the others in some ways. Rational does not always enter the picture. I retired from working on Fords and Lincoln and Mercury for nearly 50 years. I have owned 11 first generation Broncos and 2 large Broncos. I have off roaded all over southwestern Colorado and northern New Mexico. I do have some experience. This is my first Bronco2. like the old song goes I want to do it my way.

I do believe that if you want to use your original doors that you will need to get donor doors to get the tracks out of.

You shouldn't need much. I would get a set of donor doors just to be sure you have everything, but it shouldn't be super hard. Worst part will be that some moron decided it was a good idea to rivet everything together, including the glass to the regulator.

Thanks for the in put. I believe if not all at least most regulators and door glasses were riveted in place from the factory. Over the years I remember breaking some glasses when putting them back to gather. Again thank all for your input. The more I get into this project, the more I realize how much I do not know.

Pretty much all of them were, until the middle of the last decade. That doesn't make pop rivets through glass any smarter.

The Vent windows do several things consistently.

They block vision
They LEAK
They Make wind noise
The frames rust.
The vent windows have a "security latch" that often doesn't work correctly

They DO NOT do several things:
They are in a bad location aerodynamically and thus don't ventilate all that well.
They don't allow the window to close properly when moving.

The window glass is not properly supported in the Gen1 & Gen2 doors so attempting to roll the windows up while driving at highway speeds usually results in the window riding OUTSIDE the front "track" and can (and in my case has) resulted in the glass breaking.

Oddly I do not have this issue with the non-Vent window doors

The way I converted my truck to non-vent widow glass was by simply
swapping off the doors.

I also swapped on Gen2 doors which have nicer (Plastic rather than cardboard)
door panels and built in provisions for speakers, which my Gen1 doors lacked.
