I have searched the forums and cannot seem to find this! I am sure there has to be someone who has run into this.
I have a 88 Ranger with 4 plug 2.3 that went tits up! My buddy sold me a 2.3 8 plug out of a 92 Mustang that was rebuilt 5800 miles ago for $100 and help organize his shop! I got the engine dropped in and bolted up. Now I need to wire up everything. I have the wiring on the 92 up to the fire wall. How do I wire into the 88 wiring harness? Or can I use the 88 wiring and add to it for the other 4 plugs? Help! I am a medic and nurse! This is one operation that has stumped me! :icon_surprised:

I would suggest just plugging the extra 4 plug holes on the intake side and use the existing wiring as if you had a 4 plug head. you could just leave the plugs on the intake side in the head and work from there...as long as they are not in the way of the fuel rail or anything else.

If you want to actually use the 8 plugs you would need to swap in the wiring harness (inside and outside the cab) as the connections on the harnesses are probably different.

I've heard of a few people using the 8 plug head as with just the 4 plugs without any problems...

The extra 4 plugs are used as an "after burner" as opposed to working with the exhaust side so they don't actually give you anything more...meant to help reduce emissions...and, apparently, do that when used with the DIS system...

Just put the 4 plug head on the rebuilt bottom end, the distributor won't fit with the 8plug intake, and its a better fuel injection, and head design than the 8 plug.

Thanks!

Thanks Guys! I guess I will have to take the 4 plug head to the shop and get it done! It is the D head anyway! So hopefully more power with it anyway. I appreciate you're inputs! :icon_thumby:

If the 88 has a non roller cam, I think it does, put the roller cam and followers into the 4plug.
