whats up everybody, this is my first post so go easy on me, ok. ive been wondering for a while now how hard it would be to swap my 3.0L for 4.0L from another ranger? does anyone know if the engine mounts are the same or would i need to make custom mounts? would it mount up to the same transmission? basically i'm asking what would i need to modify to or change out to get this engine into my truck. any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated

Daniel

You'll need a different tranny, a wiring harness(both engine and engine compartment harnesses), PCM, Motor Mounts, The engine (from a 98' & up), possibly the intake tube, and exhaust.

Have you looked at the engine swap forum? (it is right below the v6 forum and there is alot of good info in there) You are going to need at least the following: Engine and all the wiring to go with it, Transmission (clutch if its a manual) motor mounts, ECM, Radiator, Exhaust, Intake and theres a bunch of little things. But if you want a good response in the future you need to be more thorough in your post. Include the years, engines, trans 2x4 or 4x4 etc. so we know what to tell ya.

here is link to the swap thread.

Actually seeing that you have an 01 and your asking this question already, your probably way better off selling the truck and buying that already has a 4.0. It will save a ton of time and probably money unless your truck is trashed.

thanks for the quick replys guys yes i know i will need everything, as far as the ECM, PCM, and the wire harnesses that come with the new engine too but i guess what im trying to ask is will i need to do any cutting into the frame or modification of the mount area or should it just fit in my engine compartment as is? my truck is 2 wheel drive, auto transmission. im planning on replacing the stock intake and headers and all that stuff so that really doesn't matter. all im worried about is how well the new engine will fit. im sorry if what im giving you is a little vague but i really dont know much about engines and mechanics, most of my background is with car electronics so im not afraid doing some wiring

oh and i really dont want to sell it because i would need to do a bunch of work on it anyway just to get a good price for it and i already dumped tons of money and lots of time into my audio system for competitions. so if im going to work on it anyway i might as well just go for the gold, do the work, and have a beast of a truck for myself instead of selling my soul to a dealership for a stock vehicle
