suspensions 101

I have a 97 and it has twin I beam front suspension, what is the diff, between that and the newer style 98 and up? is the newer style better? if so why? trying to learn all I can.

the older style beams are cheaper to lift and pretty much as unbreakable as you can get.the newer style setup provides a better ride from what i've heard, but is a little bit more pricey to lift. but which one is better has been debated on more than one occasion.
