hey guys i have a 94 4.0 and i did a long trip from las vegas to boise this week and my truck started sputtering right as i left las vegas it did a weird backfire then i pulled the plugs all of them were good except one that was somewhat fouled but as far as me solveing the problem i have gotten no where so heres what i have done

new fuel pump
new spark plugs
new fuel filter
new Fuel pressure regulator

now i feel like im throwing money away because i have no idea what it is.
but basically under load for example if i want to pass someone going 55 in 5th gear WTO it does it and at low speeds when im 3rd gear.

would it be injectors?
MAF?
what?

any help would be great....

intake leak? my 98 4.0 auto tranny does that sometimes like goin up a hill at 50ish. that or head gasket which both are prolly shot on my truck, intake and head gasket, prolly fix intake tomm jsut to do sumtin lol.

well a head gasket wouldent surprise me.
but on another note my heater core leaked fluid all over the burger king parking lot
and seemed to run way cooler than what it used to like heres what the gage looks like

C__^____H

thats how it runs with hardly any coolent in it
theres gotta be something wrong here right???

When the coolant is low there is air in the system. This air is up high in the system... So is the coolant sensor.. So the sensor is telling you the temperature of the AIR in the system! It isn't wrong! What it isn't telling you is the temp of the heads and components of the engine. These are way hotter than normal. THIS is what is burning all the heads and headgaskets. Too much heat that isn't "seen" by the gauge.
