One more problem...for starters, the specifics...'88 b2, 4x4, 2.9v6, a4ld. I recently replaced the torque converter and tcc lock up solenoid and everything has been good for about 4 months now. A couple days ago I hit the road and suddenly it decided it didn't want to shift past 3rd gear. I got no warning or anything just fine one day and no O/D the next. I checked the vacuum lines and they seem to be ok. Any ideas?:icon_confused:

Broken band ? Failed servo ? Stuck 3-4 shift valve ? Take your pick.

Also make sure your speed sensor is ok. The speedo can still work, but the sensor can fail. Happend to my 90 ranger with a4ld. Speedo worked fine and the sensor was all corroded and crumbled to pieces when I took it out to test it.

Could be any of the above or computer decided to stop working or possibly a blown fuse. Need to put a scanner on it to see if computer is commanding OD and if speed sensor is functioning.I think the sensor has a gear on it and part of sensor drives speedo cable and the other is a speed sensor for computer.
