Im looking to get a 12'' sub for my truck but know nothing about them or anything. im curious as to what would be the best sub for my truck and what amp i should run.

what kinda of music do you mostly listen to and whats your budget? how much of your cab are you willing to give up for your sub?

mostly rock but i listen to everything. i dont want anything huge that will take up the entire cab cause i keep a couple things back there but no one sits back there so that is not a problem. as for budget, really dont have one. i wont be able to do this for awhile but when i do budget shouldnt be a huge problem.

audiobahn subs, pioneer, alpine, phoenix gold, audiobahn, rockford fosgate, mtx, jbl, any of those amps, 2 channel 1200w amp should thump pretty good for what you want. are/do you have an upgraded stereo head unit? if not, def look into getting one. something that has a high voltage amp pre-out. i highly recommend pioneer, but everyones taste is different. shop around. the best thing you could do is go to a local stereo shop, and listen to some setups, and dont let them talk you into anything, then when you find the setup you like, write the part numbers down, and buy em on ebay. its a lot cheaper that way. hope this gives you a little insight on your stereo.

either you mean peak power or you want him to go broke and deaf. A 250-300 watt 2 channel amp would be plenty for subs

keeping my hearing would be good haha. i have an aftermarket head unit but will be getting a new one with the sub.

stay away from audiobahn, a very good balanced daily sub to look at are the FI SSD's. The FI Q's are some very good sounding woofers from what i hear
www.ficaraudio.com
Resonant Engineering (RE) as some good stuff for decent prices and you can get them cheap on ebay
I like Audioque's amps, best bang for the buck imo. you can get a true 1200w rms 1ohm stable mono amp for 249 shipped. their subs sound great and get very loud but arent meant for sealed boxes.

you can get very good stuff for cheap if you look outside the mainstream retail brands

theres nothing wrong with audiobahn except the price, although i got a new sub and alpine 1500 watt amp for 150.00 :D :D :D

maybe if all you care about is having a chrome sub and amp. their subs sound like crap and their amps dont put out their rated power, id say theres alot wrong with audiobling but there out of business now

all i have is an audiobahn sub. i have an alpine amp. and i love the way my sub sounds. but thats just my opinion. all i did was make a suggestion. thats all. im not always right, heck im most of the time wrong. but hey, the guy could put whatever he wants into his truck. and ill put whatever i want into my truck. later

My 2 cents,

if you have no real budget,

do you have 4 doors if you dont, i would get rid of a seat, maybe behind the driver, casue i hate having to move my seat, so you dont ever have to if the sub is there, but take the seat out and go to a shop to custom make a box to fit there so its a nice and clean install. then throw a 12 in there, maybe a nice JL in there full black grill over it, would look pretty clean,

the sub is about money, you can find deals all over the internet but i hate waiting and i like to see it in my hands before i fork over money. i dont know how much you have looked at subs and car audio but you might get a budget when you start looking lol. but if you want to entry level, you can run poineer, mxt, baz. RF there entry level and can be hit or miss, of the four i only like poineer.

if you wanna step it up a lil, eclips, kicker, mb, JBL some of the entry level aplines, JL's

a lil higher, we can talk, but JL's and aplines can get up there along with some of the kickers.

as far as amps go im an apline guy, but its up to you what you can dish out for and anything i mentioned in the "step up" will get the job done

i like the idea of taking out a seat. i hadnt ever thought of doing it like that.

i agree with you on the subs, but the alpine amp is bull shit, for one alpine amps stopped doing the max power and rms power a long time ago. they sold there amps based off or rms power. the PDX1.1000 is only 1000W and apline never bosted anything more its the dealers bullshit lies, and the same goes, for the M850 and the m1000, get your facts right

im an apline guy i love there amps they do good stuff but they do what they do nothing more
