Does anyone know if there are any companies making replacement covers for the first gen stx seats? I have a set and they're quite comfortable but look like garbage and I'd like to re cover them. I would not like to use a set of universal covers over the top, would like to replace what is there.

What do those seats look like? I can't say that I have ever looked for or come across that option listed, but maybe they are same/similar to something else.

If they’re anything like the 2 Gen STX seat, with the extension at the front, you’re damn right they are comfortable.

They are, they have adjustable side bolsters and thigh support, along with lumbar adjustment. I think the main difference is these are a low back seat

Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone knows if the seat foam is compatible between these seats and the same generation of Mustang? It looks really similar but I'm unsure if it's close enough to work. All of the aftermarket suppliers don't put out the part numbers in the listing. Some searching says it's likely the same though.

I just bought a 1993 Ranger STX with the 'sport bucket seats' for my grandson. I've been looking, in vain, for replacement upholstery for the badly thrashed driver side seat. The foams and covers appear to be interchangeable between the two seats so my solution was to find a passenger seat in good condition and switch the cover and foams. I picked up the seats yesterday and hope to start the process of rebuilding the driver's seat in the next couple of days.

My concern is that I am intimidated by bolster and lumbar system. I need to separate the seat back from the base but there is a tube/cable that runs from the lumbar switch in the base to the lumbar bladder(?) in the back. Does anyone have any experience or information on the bolster/lumbar system? I don't want to do any damage by being stupid!

not i. i would be worried about damaging it also though

I started pulling the donor seat apart this morning. Much to my surprise, the plastic tubing, rubber connectors, pneumatic bladders, and the switches were in excellent condition. Not brittle or rotten! Nothing involving the pneumatic lumbar or side bolsters broken - yet...

The second surprise was how easily the foams and upholstery separated from the frame. The biggest challenge was the plastic "J-channel(?)" at the bottom of the seat back. Once I figured out how to separate them it took 5 - 10 minutes to pull the upholstery off the back. The seat base didn't take more than 5 minutes.

This is the seat that is providing the upholstery for my driver's seat. As you can see, I need to shampoo the replacement upholstery so it will be a couple of days before I can transfer it over. Wish me luck.

Once you have the covers off, just throw them in the washing machine. I wouldn’t put them in the dryer, I’d hang them out in the sun to dry.

Thanks for giving me the heads up! Throwing them into the washer should save a bunch of time/effort plus do a better job of cleaning.
