Hi guys or gals. I have this tick (kind've a knock) Sounds like it's a hole in my header (big hole) But I don't. It's a 2.9 L (89) I've tightened my lifters down as they were clacking earlier. So that's doesn't seem to be the problem. I read something on here about the injector's knocking or making noises. I don't understand how they could make any noise at all.But anyways any help would be apreciated. It's driving me nuts!!!. also it doesn't make the noise when I first start it. And hasn't dropped in power or torque at all since it started. Take care ford lover's

check your oil pressure....

+1

I cracked a head on my '88, eventually the oil pressure dropped (showed on the stock gauge even). I got off the highway one day, and the motor just start making a gnarley ticking/knocking (clunk, clunk, clunk..). I parked it after that. I ended up pulling/rebuilding the engine, the mains were good, rod bearings had a little copper showing. Not sure about the cam bearings, had the machine shop dick around with that. It was the first rebuild I did, still going 4 year later..

with the tick

hey i had the same thing i forget what year the 2.9L came with the lifter that u can ajust that might be the problem and if not put osme no smoke in the oil becasue it is think and it will not tick that is all i did hope that help alter drew

The tick from the injectors is quite common. Usually it will become non audible when the motor is revved, where as an oil pressure problem will be more noticeable when revved.

The injectors tick as they fire, mine's done it for 50K and still runs like a top.
