I believe my f150 has a 8.8 its a 1999 its got 3.55 gears, just wandering if the 4.10s put of my ranger will fit?

Yes, 8.8 gears are all the same.

then its 28 spline you will need to swap carriers

So everything will swap right into my f150?

No. The Ranger 8.8 is like a hybrid 7.5/8.8. The larger ring gear is to handle the 4.0 torque, but it really isn't needed as a 7.5 is in no danger of being harmed by a 4.0. The 8.8 shares the 7.5 axles and the load rating is the same as the 7.5--being a semi-float, the load is carried on the axle shafts.

The Explorer has a real 8.8, and the FX4 Ranger.

Maybe not the gears themselves (although they have been known to grenade), but the cross-pin doesn't appreciate a 4.0.

stupid question

I broke a tooth off a spider gear on a 7.5 with a 2.3, but was on a shock load...

The 28spline ranger 8.8 carries 1050 shafts while the 7.5 carries 1040 which amounts to roughly 30% stronger...still not as strong as the 31 spline shafts but stronger than a 7.5 hence why you don't see very many guys blowing them even with 35s something that would kill a 7.5 very quickly.
