My 90 bronco 2 has manual hubs.
I expect the are after the market.
I was checking my brakes today when I pulled off the tire, the hub came with it...
I was looking down at the hub suck in the rim...then I looked at the calliper and the splines and the long studs..
Then I pushed the hub from the rim and stuck it back in place..(went over the studs like a spacer)checked to see if it worked and went on with life...
Both sides are the same...

Is this normal?
What is the maintenance procedure for theses..
I am thinking I need to re grease after any water crossing as this cannot be sealed...
I'd there a better system?
Will these go on explorer axles when I upgrade?

You are talking about the rotor or disc. There are two styles of rotors, one that had the hug built into it and only removes by removing the wheel bearing and another style which is basically a "hat" that slides over the hub. However, to remove the "hat" style you need to first remove the caliper that is bolted and positioned around it. So what is wrong with yours??

^^ No he's not. He's talking about the lockout HUBs. And yes, this is normal. They usually have an o-ring that goes around them to help seal out water but in time, they fall off/rot away. if you're really worried about it, slap a thin layer of silicone on it.

Here's a nice little writeup I did for the front axle teardown.

Thank you.and thank you for the write up I'm off to do some reading..

I saw a write up on here that shows how to screw them to the rotor so they stay. The only problem with the idea is that you have to redo the drill and tap job every time you replace the rotors.

Also, I was just pondering the grammatical ramifications of the thread title. I think it needs a coma. As it stands, I'm not sure if you have a regular question about stupid front hubs, or if you have a stupid question about regular front hubs.

The grammar works for me.
They are a stupid design for hubs and it was a stupid question....

But better to look stupid and ask questions than to not learn and be stupid.

Writeup here:

I don't see redoing the holes after rotor replacement being any big issue...
How often do you replace rotors anyway?? (I still have the original OEM rotors on mine)

Well, my truck has something up with the left side. The left goes into the rivets while the right still has 1/3 of the material left. I don't usually notice it until the rotor is already destroyed (or will be by the time I get home) since these stupid things are already so thin.

We will see how it goes with the new setup once the D-35 is in.
