Stumble in Idle on 3.0 Vulcan

Latest update for whoever may has same problem. The idle is very good now but not perfect. I am guessing probable about as good as it ever was even new. Last week I replaced the cats because they were rotted out and man did that make a difference in the way this thing runs. Its a 2002 with 96,000 miles (4500 miles a year) so those cats have seen a lot of short trips. I was able to buy a set from a donor Ranger so still OEM. It runs like a scalded dog compared to before.

Replacing the TPS pigtail is what smoothed out my idle.....the top red and grey wire contact can be funny.....had it on both my 3.0 rangers, a 2000 and 2001.....has/had a few different symptoms.....sometimes it was a normal idle, sometimes 200 rpms too high, and sometimes normal but fluttering.......got to a point where i could lightly touch the red n grey wire and the idle would change, not all the time but sometimes.........i wedged a toothpick into the wire hole on pigtail to keep the contact still/not moving, and idle cleared up, proper rpms etc......i just had the pigtail replaced today, she's running smooth like butter 325k miles.....take something thin and firm like a nail and lightly nudge the red and grey wire near the pigtail, being careful not to move the other two wires and see if your idle changes.....you could also measure electric there to make sure its correct/not fluctuating....i don't know squat about electric....
