Stuck split pin

I was doing the front brakes on my 93 4L 4x4 today, drivers side the pins tap out real easy with a screwdriver, no problems. On the passenger side, I've been beating the living crap out of these things to get them to move at all. I finally got the top one. Ended up grabbing a punch of sorts because I was tearing the screwdriver handle apart. Now it's stuck, I think in the rubber, of the bottom pin. Not sure how else to get these things out.

Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is a roll pin punch or the proper diameter metal dowel or square stock.
I have always used a screwdriver too and never had a problem.

Could just be some rust in there, use one of the ones that came out OK, to pound it thru then pound the OK one thru.
You should replace both stubborn ones.
The trick with these is to not hit the rubber, that expands them

Try pinching them with a pair or pliers then whack the pliers. Like Ron said, if you hit the rubber that just expands them.

Just curious. Not sure if this would be an approved method. Would an air hammer with the right diameter punch work? I was thinking the impacts from the air hammer would shock it loose if it were rust. Kind of like an impact wrench does on a bolt or nut. I'm just curious as i just got a truck that has the split pins and want some tricks up my sleeve come time to do brakes if they decide to be stubborn.

I would try using one of the pins that came out fine, but right now I have a punch stuck in the hole with the last pin that wont come out. It's actually wedged all the way through it. Having a terrible time just getting the punch out now.

tap the punch up + down, side Clap a vise grip on it and wiggle as you pull.wise

well since you probly messed it up by now do what i did on my 89 when i beat the heck out of them and ended up taking my torch and burning them out of course make sure you have a fire extingushier and new pins lol but thats what i did and they are fine now and when you put them in put some wheel bearing greese on them to keep them from sticking again just a light coat not too much
