So my 96 B4000 Automatic is stuck in Neutral (or Drive?). I was pulling forward, then proceeded to shift into reverse to back up, and to my surprise, the truck wanted to go forward as if it was still in drive.

So I turn the truck off and try to shift into park, and after doing that, i was still able to push the truck as if it was in neutral or drive.

So now I cannot start it. What can be the problem? :icon_confused:

**BTW**-- There is a "gap" between Neutral and drive. By gap, I mean that "click" that you get when changing through gears.

Sounds like the manual position lever is fubar. Either that or the manual/selector valve. Either way the trans ranger sensor is seeing it as being in gear, that's why it won't start.

Do you have a floor shift or column shift?

*Update*

I looked at the Transmission Shifter Cable, and it melted from being so close to the exhaust!

You know what....

That'd do it too.

Just an FYI, the needle being out of adjustment will not cause it not to start. There is a range sensor on the side that will though, if the actual linkage is not in the right position.
