STS Turbo kit on Ebay any good?

Is it something like this? If so, I wouldn't trust the turbo in it....evrything else is fine, piping, charge cooler etc. High quality turbos are pretty expensive...and they are for a reason. Personalluy, I wouldn't trust one of those turbos. Never know when it's going to thorw itself apart and send little bits of compeller into your intake, or burn up because it's not also water cooled. (Not that a higgher quality turbo couldn't also do that...but one that is able to be manufactured so cheap cannot have extensive design, research and QA)

Ya thats the one. Im just trying to figure out the cheapest way to get a turbo into my truck. Biggest part is getting it to pass smog here in central california with it.

Guaranteed those kits are NOT from STS. They are here in town and they actually use decent parts. Their kits range from 2k to 5k. You want a turbo in your truck, swap in a thunderbird 2.3 turbo.

Like i said, i dont know much about turbos and cant tell a brand by a picture...thats just what it said. I would prefer to just keep the motor I have, so couldn't I just slap in some forged pistons, get the thunderbird computer and turbo stuff and do it that way?

Seen a T-Coupe 2.3L with manual trans, computer and wiring on CL a while ago, I think it had around 90K miles for $800.. Going to be hard to beat a price like that doing it piece by piece. Best way is to get it from a running car, that way you know you did something wrong if it has issues.

Ebay turbos are made in China and Taiwan and are junk... Save up for higher quality parts and you'll save yourself the headache.

And don't buy a new Garrett turbo because the have apparently become junk. If you use garrett, make sure it's a few years old.

So no ebay turbos or brand new Garretts. Thanks. I do have a question about the 2.3T motors. Whats the stock numbers on that engine? hp, lbs of boost, pistons etc.

hp between 140 and 205, depending on year
tq between 165 and 245
boost 10 lo 15 hi
forged pistons 8:1 compression

So a stock 2.3 running 15 psi will put out almost the exact same numbers as a stock 302? Give or take a little or course. Also, once I get forged pistons put in, how will I know how much boost I can run at a max?
