Strongest 4cyl.

Isuzu had a pretty stout 2.6L that made I believe 170hp in stock form, back in the late 80's early 90's Troopers... It motivated the big old Trooper with plenty of power, criused easily at 70-80 mph, and had no problem getting into traffic... Also practically indestructible, I drove one that had no oil, put some in it, and I still see it running around, I remember seeing one get torn down around 200k miles that still had the factory hone on the cylinder walls... Not sure about the performance options for it though...

My stepdad had a 4 cyl mustang 2 back in the day. I think maybe that would be a strong 4 cyl?

mustangs got the 2.3

The 2.3 in the company 2001 ranger seems like it will never die.
it see's 4k to 5k shifts, been run out of oil 4 times. :annoyed:
right know its got 104k on the clock and it keeps running I waiting to see when it will just stop running.

International Harvester 196ci 4 cylinder. half the big 392ci block. will run forever and make more torque than most others at half the rpm. i believe there a few of the first ones that may have had case hardened blocks. i know some of the 152ci engines were. have driven both and the 196ci is awesome!! :headbang:

Honestly the little 1.9L Ford isnt a bad engine. I hae seen them get the living shit whooped out of them and never give up. The bad thing is though they only make 88HP.

The 2.5L Chevy i was never really impressed with.

Its up to you but ill throw in a vote for the 1.9L.

vtec! no, im kidding. i dont like men.

the 2.3 ford is a very stout 4 banger imo, i used to beat the shit out of them at work on a regular basis and they would never miss a beat. they are also nice and simple. and easy to extract some very decent horsepower from, too.

that pontiac tempest i4 looks pretty cool too, but i have no real experience with them.

In a perfect world I'd go searching for a Pontiac tempest slant 4

Basically this engine is a 389cid V8 with a unique crankshaft and a blankoff plate in place of one cylinder head

a 194 CID 4cyl?

I've saw ONE in a dirt track car and talked to the owner...

I upheld my reputation as having an "evil mind" by making a suggestion...

the pontiac slant four had the cylinder head on the right (passenger)
side of the block I suggested if he could find another early 389 V8 block,
blank off the passenger side lifter bores there was no reason why the
engine could be built backwards with the cylinderhead on the left bank
for better weight placement in a circle track car...

I got the quintessential "Why the hell didn't I think of that look" from the guy...

Then I suggested there was no real reason why he couldn't build it on a
400block and make it an even 200cid:)

Now that is what I call a beastly 4cyl, I might just take the ol Vulcan outta my truck and put that in.

What kind of cars are you allowed to run? Down hear the local tracks say you can run "any 4 cylinder, front wheel drive, non-turbo". We used to have a 4 cylinder truck class around here, almost everybody ran 2.3 rangers, I had one pretty much ready to go when they decided to stop running them. I ended up parting the truck out.

We can run turbos up here, Front wheel , All wheel , Rear wheel. they even let you run mini-vans in the the cars up here.
EDIT: I meant in with the cars not in them

dude seriously you made me almost pee myself with laughter over the Vtech thing.

most of your dirst track guys run a 2.3 ford or a 22r toyota... lots of parts for either

Ok well if i can find a slant four in decent shape I might go with that, but I think my choice are pretty much from what you all have said will either be a 2.3 or a 22r. maybe even a 4AFE turbo setup in an old Corolla all-trac
