I got a 92 Ranger project truck. 4.0L, 5 speed, already lowered and I'm rebuilding the motor as a summer project, high comp rings, higher compression heads, bored, maybe even stroked to 4.3 i dont know. Anyway, what is the best way to lock my rear end, its a 7.5, so that I dont leave one tread at the line?

you should throw a 95+ explorer 8.8" 31-spline in the rear, get one with a stock Limited Slip and 4.10 gears, they also have disc brakes.. it is also spring under, so its basically a built in 'flip kit' for the rear, you said its already lowered-- so that would work great.

stronger, lower gears, better brakes, more traction!

if you want a locker for the 7.5 i would recommend the powertrax no-slip, very street friendly locker, if this is for straight lines on the strip only, go with a spool.. but if you plan to do any spirited on-road driving with corners, i would stick with a L/S.

If it came stock with a 4.0, it's an 8.8. I'd throw a No-slip locker back there, supposed to be a very street friendly locker.

Compleckz, No-slip ain't made for the 7.5 :icon_thumby:

If its a street truck i'd look at the Detroit TruTrac gear driven limited slip. No clutches to wear out, nice and smooth operation, and no noises.

Yup, even a No-Slip can get a little scary when going around corners on the gas real hard.

If this will be a performace vehicle meant for all-around driving get a good quality LSD.

+1

That, or the Torsen.

Thanks guys for the imput. It is for on road "spirited driving" but i'd rather have an all out traction to both wheels kind of thing going then a n LSD. How much are the TruTrac ones do you think from a performance shop?

I already got a flip kit in it as of this weekend but i heard thats a good idea. My truck is also just a school project until i can afford an offroad project.

The TrueTrac's run about 470 from most places i've seen online

oh yea, my b.

i would still go with a stock L/S explorer axle for the street, seems the most cost effective to me.. maybe shove some more clutches in there if you think its not strong enough for you..

a truetrac may be a good compromise between auto locker and l/s, but thats a full carrier replacement right? i guess it all depends on a.) what types of roads you will be driving spiritedly on (straight? curves?) b.) how much money/time you're looking to spend on the upgrade.. (gear setup/carrier replacement vs. bolt-in rear end swap, $150 junk yard axle w/ ls, 4.10s vs. $450 L/S unit, possible gear setup charge + new gears?)
