I have a 91 ranger 2.3L. and just last night it started a strange issue when trying to start it, it will spin over just fine but not start, then after sitting for a minute or so will start just fine, it takes several attempts at spinning for it to finally catch. a simple point in the right direction would be helpful

Turn the key to Run, wait 2 seconds, listening for the fuel pump.
Turn key to Off. Repeat, repeat, THEN crank it over.

Sounds like the classic fuel pressure bleeding down problem.

next time i go to drive it i will try that, what are some of the causes of that issue?

I agree with Earl. Cycle the key a few times and if it fires up it is probably a fuel pressure issue. some causes of a fuel pressure issue are. clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump regulator( I think this is on the fuel rail), bad fuel pump( I think it is in the tank).

if you have fuel pressure gauge you can test it and the shrader valve on the fuel rail. you should have koeo 35-45 , koer 25-35

you can pull the vacuum line of the fuel pressure regulater. You should not have any gas on or in the vacuum line.

alright ill look into that this weekend, thanks for the quick help.
