I've been driving with my hubs locked for a month or so now with no problems. I am still getting 20.5mpg (just filled up tonight and checked) However, today we got about 6 inches of snow. On the way home I was running in 4WD on the freeway. Some parts were just slushy so I got up to about 55mph for a minute or two.
I began to hear a noise I've not heard before. The best I can desribe it is the sound a grocery cart wheel makes when it's not rolling properly. The sound was not constant, but got softer and louder. Since it was not too slippery I put the truck back into 2WD, and once I heard and felt the t-case unlock it never came back.
When I left my second job it was even worse out and I used 4WD all the way home (no faster than 45) but did not hear it again.
Otherwise I've had no strange noises running the hubs locked, no pops, bangs, clunks, in 2WD or 4WD up until now.
The only thing I did notice is I was on a concrete stretch of highway with the grooves every couple hundred feet, and it was when I would hit the bumps and the truck would bounce I heard the noise.
Any ideas?
