stop the beeping!!!!

i have just bought a 97 stx ranger. when i start it i get this beeping from what seems to be from behind the glove box. its 5 beeps stops 5 beeps. it happens 5 times. i have noticed its not just on start up also. if i drive it a while (45min plus) it does it again. any ideas?

Pull off the dash, find the offending electronic POS and disable it, I despise door open dingers and buzzers, I disabled mine.

Does it have an aftermarket stereo or alarm? Does it sound the same as your door chime or lights on chime, or key in the ignition chime?

it is not the same sound as the door open or key in beep. i do have a after market deck in it. as for an alarm i dont know. i didnt get a remote with the truck.

could be the music box for the air bag or check engine light, if its out, or is taken out it will beep, its closer to the radio though.

i do have a ck engine light on for lean bank one and lean bank two. i dont know about the air bag thing you are talking about.

i all ways have my seat belt on. and it is a pioneer. but it beeps when i start the truck.

take the glove box out, look to the left, if there is a thing that looks like a roll of nickels making the noise..... smash it to pieces! its for the check light. rescan your truck to make sure it is only running lean, and that nothing else has started to go bad.

thats weird if its fro the ck eng light. i have a nother 97 with a 2.3 2x4 and ive had the ck eng light on and never had the beeping. i'll give it a try.

usually it only beeps when the bulb is taken out. but it could be f***ed up.

could it be beeping if there is a air bag light on? i dont know if it has a air bag light in the dash?

it should come on when you turn the key to on position without starting it, it shows a guy in a seat with an airbag deployed (you will know it when you see it!) its hard to miss, unless you never look at your dash lights. did you just buy it? maybe someone took it out before they sold it to you?
