Just wanted to ask you guys what brands you've liked best for stock replacement shocks. I have a 97 2WD XLT with the "towing rear end" and it's probably time for me to replace them sometime soon. also, how bad a job is it for a shade tree mechanic like myself with access to a floor jack and tools? :shok:

Its an easy job, first wrenching I did on my 96. Floor jack, some metric sockets/wrenches, PB Blaster, anti-seize and a little luck. Make sure you spray your bolts down for a couple days to ease removal.

I like the KYB MonoMax shocks on the front of my truck. I had a shock called Black Diamond that I bought from an off road shop that was great too. You'll get what you pay for, just depends on how much you want to spend to a point. Check out rockauto.com, I got a killer deal on the ones for the back of my 95.

I just installed Gabiel Ultra LT (light truck) on my front and rear (along with a 3" lift front and rear.)

I just got them cause they were in stock at my local AutoZone store. I've only had them on a few days, so time will tell... but so far, so good.

Buy you a set of Bilstein shocks, they are a quality shock and worth the money.

shocks, lets see on my old 93 ranger 4wd 3.0 i had autozoo gabriel ultras on it, now heres the trick i like about them: autozoo has a lifetime warranty on their shocks, and all reciepts are now computerized by phone number. my dad bought them for the trk in 95, and i still have his old phone number, and ive put 9 sets of shocks (just turn in your old ones for cores and they do a damages swap) all the way up to 2008 FOR FREE. tell me that isnt a deal? i plan on getting my shox for my newtome 92 ranger thru them one time and doing the same thing, and i still have the 93 so when i get thru rebuilding it ill keep doing so w/ that trk as well...
