2002 XLT: driver-side rear door unopenable; seems like the top is loose and can't be pushed shut, and the bottom doesn't budge at all; "door ajar" light on dash is lit; had to remove bulbs from dome light, as they stayed on for longer than normal. Tried a "search"....only one person who "pryed" it open. Any new solutions since that 2010 posting...?
Thanx much for any help....Charlie.

The bottom mechanism on the door's are known to cause many issues. Mine was the rear door would not shut properly, which would cause the ajar light to come on over bumps etc. Im afraid the only way to do it without prying it would be trying to soak it with PB Blaster or WD-40 and hope it frees it up.

Buddies 04 Superduty did the same thing on the driverside. That door wouldn't open oft he life of me. Worked on it for over 3 hours. Come to find out the cable had come loose from the mechanism. It was a chore but got it reconnected and the dang thing still wouldn't open. One day out of the blue he tried it and it opened. We soaked it with everything but gasoline. Maybe the penetrant worked in time.

I had an issue like that as well with my right rear door one day on my 99 Ranger. It did not close all the way. I pushed it a few times to close it but it did not clase all the way. I was out grocery shopping and then I got it back to the house and played with it. It was the cable. It came loose from the door handle just a bit. I pulled the cable off the latch and pulled on the cable lightly with a pair of plyers a couple of times and then put the cable back on the latch and shut the door and it was back to normal again. It has never done that again. Very strange.
