Stick shift vibration (but goes away when gas applied)

I have a '95 2.3L with 60,000 miles (really just 60k). The stick shift vibrates an (I think?) excessive amount when idling, as does the steering wheel a bit. It doesn't matter if it's in gear or not.

Applying gas (whether in gear or not) completely takes this vibration away, from both the stick shift and the steering wheel.

No other symptoms - no check engine light, etc.

I recently changed the spark plugs/wires - no change in the vibrations.

Any idea what's could be going on? Thanks,

Mounts are probably worn. We see this on the Focus all the time. 4-cyl engine have terrible NVH quality at low RPM, but smooth out a bit when revved up. Once the mounts start to go it can get really bad.

Mounts as in the 2 engine mounts, or the 1 transmission mount?

All three. One bad one can cause the other two to fail.

If you replace your mounts I would stick with Ford mounts. I put a pair of new aftermarket mounts in my Mustang when I replaced the engine and I had a bad vibration at idle. I when back to Ford mounts and it was fine. The aftermarket mounts had much harder rubber.

Good to know, thanks.

I may at some point have someone look at this, since I don't really know how to tell if a mount is bad. Watching videos, I can see when mounts are *really* bad, but if my problem is that, it's much more minor and kinda hard (for me) to tell.

bad motor mounts

stick a pry bar in between the frame and the engine and try to pry up it shouldn't move same for the tranny mount, try to pry up on the tranny either with your hand or a pry bar between the cross member and the tranny it shouldn't move very much either if any are bad change them all.:icon_thumby:
