I have a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT with the single compact disk and tape deck combination stereo. The problem I have is that the clock screen doesn't light up. The stereo itself works perfect but not having a screen really sucks.

The place I bought the truck from just replaced the blend door, could they have pulled out a wire by mistake?

Also is the little screen below the speedo and tach suppposed to show anything, might it be on the same fuse as the clock?

One last question:icon_confused:, I dont have a copy of the Audio book, my truck came with no mauals lol(I got the owners one from Ford Fleet). Is there anyone that could scan a copy for me? Let me know and I'll give you my email.

Anyhelp is apreciated for my long-winded post.

i had the same problem with my stock head unit. it sounds to me that it is an issue with those stock decks in general. the truck i just bought had a refurbished h/u in it. i assume it was the same problem. as far as telling you whats wrong, im sorry, i cant. my solution was to just get an aftermarket deck. if thats not for you, you can always check the local bone yards and try to find one.

Hey you might try this web site or just google ford radio fix.

O ya that little screen under the tack is for the Auto trucks. to show what gear the truck is in.

When you say the screen doesn't light up, do you mean it doesn't show the clock or radio station or anything, or do you just mean it doesn't light up at night when you turn the headlights on?

Yeah it doesn't show anything at all. It looks like is is the issue of the solders being burnt off. I know a guy in automotive electrical that I might get him to help me resolder the joints. I would like to keep the factory deck in it and maybe just wire in an auxiary input.
