mine does this too, to the point that cd's come out hot to the touch, I've had the stereo in mine since I got it 2 years ago, and I don't know how long before that (it came with the truck) so I wouldn't really worry about it.

if you've ever pulled the dash from a gen2 you'll see that the foam seals for the ducting shrink and blow out from age. you might be able to loosen up the dash and use some new somewhat high temp foam tape(like the stuff that comes with camper shells).its a pain but i'm not putting an expensive CD player in my truck until i fix it.it also sucks because heat always leaks past even if the blower is off
EDIT:besides a bad ass 4x4 shoulden't have thumpin' bass coming from it on the trail:rolleyes:you can't hear stuff break.

I don't think it'll be a problem. My 92 had an aftermarket cd player in it when I got it. I drove that truck for six years without a problem. If you were listening to a cd and had the heater going, that thing would get HOT. But it never failed.

If you are still concerned about it, get some sheet metal and make a shield for it. And good luck with all the extra space you have behind the dash...

Mine gets so hot its hard to hold the CDs when they come out. My deck is an Alpine and it has never had a problem, though i often worry about it.

heres a few pics of the two main gaskets mating the dash to the heater

and here is another right above the stereo but i think you would need to have the vents going for it to be a problem.probably the defrost vent gasket behind the heater control

good luck changing the gaskets with the dash still attached though
