question is I have a 2000 ford ranger stepside bed are the sides fiberglass or a fiberglass mix? and can you just paint them? and do I need to paint the back sides too? can I just fill small imperfections with fiberglass bondo with hardener? have experience painting metal but not fiberglass.

Rear bed side was damaged on mine when I got it. ground & repaired w/ resin & f-glass, finished w/ bondo. primed & painted just like I would metal.

I am talking about under the bed and the backside of the bedsides.

you're confusing us a bit on that one. you mean that big space between the fender and the bedside?

the only parts that are fiberglass are the outer fenders. the inner parts/bedsides, bottom, front wall, tailgate are all plain 'ol steel.
I don't think the backside of the fiberglass fenders are painted at the factory.

I already know the the besides are fiberglass and I know the backside was not painted at the factory the question is has anyone ever painted the backside and if they did what would you use?

I'd use paint.
