As some of you may know, I'm currently in the process of doing a dually conversion on my ranger. I ordered the fenders from JC Whitney, but the cancelled my order, because the company that makes them said that they wouldn't fit my truck (even though the description says they fit rangers from 1983-1995). So, I re-ordered them for a 1993, but I have a feeling they're going to cancel again. So, I need to weigh all of my options.

One Idea I had was to remove my original outer fenders, and then take step side fenders and mount them to the outside of my regular bed. Thus covering the outer wheels. Does anybody have any experience with changing fenders? How hard is it?

As far as I know, it is just a matter of drilling out all of the spot welds that hold them on.

Why would they cancel your order if you bought them? Isn't the idea to sell products, not deny orders?

Why can't you just call and say you are looking for replacement fenders for a stepside and say nothing about yours being a regular bed, they would never know the difference.

The stepside beds are fiberglass, so there may be more envolved than drilling spotwelds.

For a 3rd gen truck I think the stepside bedside on a styleside bed would be the best looking option if it is possible to do.

Replacement stepside fenders are cheaper on e-bay.

I agree, I'm leaning towards this option more and more.

It may not be that simple. My '02 Styleside is all fiberglass. I'm not exactly sure about how it's fastened to the steel in the cargo box, but when I mounted my tool box in the bed, there wasn't any steel in the rails to drill through.
Good luck!
