Steering wheel gone mad

I finally got my hard lines from the rack to the gear head bent and installed. The good news is I have no leaks. The bad news is when I touch the steering wheel while the truck is running, the steering wheel violently fast turns left to right. I quick shut the truck off and went into the house cross legged to clean out my shorts !!!!!!:icon_surprised::icon_surprised: Start the truck up again, idles fine, try and turn the wheel it goes nuts.:shok: All I messed with was the 2 hard lines from the rack to the gear head. Did I cross them? Does it matter witch port on the head I installed them? Will my truck ever be the same? :icon_confused::icon_confused: Any help would be appreciated. Mike:icon_confused:

I'm not completely sure, but I think one is a high and one is a low pressure.

But the wheel should only turn as fast as you turn it, so something doesn't sound right.

Thanks,I should try before I freak:icon_bounceblue::icon_bounceblue:Whent out after making this post and just for the hell of it switched the lines. It worked:yahoo: steering is fine. It seems there is a differance in the ports on the gear head. This will buy me some time so I can put a new rack in next summer. Thanks to all who responded. Mike

glad to hear you got it fixed, apparently you mixed up your pressure line and your return line, which caused your irratic steering wheel behavior. the thing that surprises me is that ford made both ports the same size, i know on my gear box (pre-98+) the pressure and return holes are 2 different sizes so they cant be mixed up.

I was going to recommend this guy!

All fittings on the gear and rack are the same on this thing. I bought the truck about a yr ago. Not sure if the rack and gear are original or not. Hope somebody can use this as a warning. The wheel could easily break your wrist if these lines get crossed. Mike
